I created an alternate design which has multiple improvements.
This view shows the sink and lots of counter over the dishwasher.
There is ample room for
cleanup and preparation.
Large crown molding on top of
the wall cabinets.

The refrigerator wall.
Having the refrigerator on this end allows for bigger cabinets
and helps to keep traffic out of the work area. The wall cabinet over the refer is 24" deep.
The tall cabinet to the left of the refer has a fixed door on end ( facing into the kitchen ).
Instead of a narrow diagonal lazy susan cabinet in the corner, I used a wider
base cabinet set at 45 degrees. This wider cabinet makes it easier to work there
( hips do not hit on the counter top ). I placed a wide two door appliance garage
on this wall to hide some appliances. Notice the two levels of top molding.

Having the oven here allows for better sized cabinets on both sides.
Tiny cabinets from the other design are omitted.

The table can be used as a lower work area for rolling dough, chopping, etc.
Four people can sit in comfort, or the island base cabinets could be enlarged
(table shortened) so that two people can sit here. Most people prefer sitting in a
chair and across from each other when eating.

One example of what the island might look like.

Island front view.

Island back view. This shows that a half wall is constructed in the field
and covered with optional wood paneling. Other options of covering
might be: door panels, beaded paneling, wall paper, tile, etc.
Please note that having a cooktop near seating requires
extra precautions when young children sit there.

Island side view. The counter top may require optional corbels to support
it ( not shown ). Corbels can be simple wooden brackets, carved decorative
brackets, wrought iron, brass, etc.
